One of the most common queries we see is for treatment of frown lines, crow’s feet and brow lines. The muscles that produce these common lines are over working, often an inherited problem or in response to squinting in the sun or concentrating on the computer.
These muscles are injected directly using a very small volume of some kind of botulinum toxin. This substance is a neuromuscular blocker meaning it blocks the message from the brain getting to the muscle, which needs it to contract, so less movement is possible. Action usually peaks in 10 to 14 days then starts to wear off after 3-4 months. These muscle relaxants have been around a long time and have an excellent safety profile.
Other treatments for fine lines and wrinkles include injections to support sagging skin, fractional, non-abalative laser such as the ResurFx to help break up underlying deeper attachments that start to occur with deeper lines and some sort of micro-needling to stimulate collagen production – this can be a more simple skin needling or our state of the art Radiofrequency needling device, the Genius. This is especially good for necks and jowls and also severe acne scarring.
Laser Genesis is a more superficial, non-ablative treatment with no downtime that can be given over a course of treatments to produce lovely, rejuvenated skin. It gently but effectively delivers heat to the skin and can be useful for diffuse redness and fine lines, and to improve sun damage and help decrease pore size. Make up can be applied immediately after and you can resume your normal activities straight away.
